Literature Text

1) 'T is bitter cold, and I am sick at heart.

2) I have been as deaf, and blind, and wooden as a log.

3) I am a woodman of the woods,  and hear the garnet-headed yaffingale mock them--

4) For the love of God, Montresor!

5) It is a foul bauble of man's vanity. Away with it!

6) What scourge of perjury can this dark monarchy afford! False Clarence!

7) I see men as trees, walking.

8) Iä-R'lyeh! Cthulhu fhtagn! Iä! Iä! No, I shall not shoot myself--

9) Clarence is come! False, fleeting, perjured Clarence, that stabbed me in the field by Tewkesbury! Seize on him, Furies! Take him to your torments!

10) The rule is, jam to-morrow and jam yesterday---but never jam to-day.

11) Mr. Holmes, they were the footprints of a gigantic hound!

12) And where the offense is let the great axe fall.

13) It was horrible. There is something of the tiger in his dark blood.

14) There, in the grey beginning of Earth, the formless mass that was Ubbo-Sathla reposed amid the slime and the vapors.

15) Confusticate and bebother these dwarves!

16) I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia.

17) And I said--"What is written, sweet sister, On the door of this legended tomb?"

18) She replied--"Ulalume--Ulalume!--'T is the vault of thy lost Ulalume!"

19) His ancient, dreamless, uninvaded sleep The Kraken sleepeth.

20) And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

21)--that what he chiefly remembers about it is a horrible, an intensely horrible, face of crumpled linen.

22) "Curiouser and curiouser!" cried Alice.

23) There is in Hell a vast and sloping ground called Malebolge...

24) Still govern thou my song, Urania, and fit audience find, though few.

25) Girt like a starry zone his waist, and round skirted his loins and thighs with downy gold, and colours dipped in heaven.

My friend :iconthe-observant-nerd: introduced me to this type of composition, the Cento; you take lines and phrases from other poems or literature and string them together in a semi-incoherent fashion...can you guess which lines are from which poet or author?

P.S. It's been so long since I put this one together that I have forgotten some of the sources, so feel free to ID them in the comments!!
