Literature Text

She stood with wings half-folded
For a century or more,
Gazing sadly downward
At the lordly tombs of yore;
Of pallid marble she was carved
By hands long dead and gone,
An angel of remembrance
Now forgotten and alone.

But in the witching twilight,
The angel wings spread wide!
The white stone eyes turn hazel
And her head turns side to side;
With a gasp of wonder
She shakes her long dark hair,
And flies away from that sad place---
No more will she stand there!

She dwells now up among the stars
And greets us when we die,
As we, too, change from lifeless stone
And sail into the sky...
Something a bit different from my usual nonsense--what do you think?:)
